Urge the USDA to Stop Exterminating Canada Geese TODAY!
As the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wildlife Services continue to systematically round up and exterminate entire flocks of resident Canada geese all over the country, IDA is calling on every one of our supporters to get involved to stop this needless killing. In 2010, thousands of innocent Canada geese across the country have been or will be gassed to death or sent to slaughterhouses if we do not take action to stop it. Since non-lethal population control programs for resident Canada geese have proven successful throughout the country, the USDA must change course and switch to non-lethal, humane, and progressive population control.
Every person I have spoken with, whether they be in New Jersey or New York, has been outraged, horrified or saddened by the eradication of geese in their communities. Many are sickened that the slaughter occurred despite public protest or without considering the interests of the vast number of residents who enjoy the presence of the geese in the parks. Of course, the lack of consideration of the interests of the geese themselves is even more disturbing.
IDA has produced another video highlighting the negative impacts of the USDA’s lethal course of action against geese. Click here to watch the video.
IDA encourages you to act to protect Canada geese in your community by contacting your city manager’s office to request a copy of their goose management plan. Also, please click here to send an e-mail to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, asking him to immediately end the slaughter of Canada geese.
With the help of each and every one of IDA’s supporters, we can make a positive difference for the Canada geese who call the United States home.

call 1-866-4-USDA-WS and ask them why and how they kill the geese, then ask them what do they do with the bodies….
this is disgusting…..why cant the us government find something else to do besides slaughtering innocent birds. I am sure there are other things that are a much bigger priority than making this an issue.
Leave all things in their place in this world. Let Canada Geese live in peace and harmony as well as all creatures.
The US Department of Agriculture should change its name to reflect its damned destructive actions. If humans cannot live with a sociable peace loving Canada goose they cannot live with anything. I believe this reflects a huge lack of both morals and ethics on the part of the USDA. They have no conscience. Personally I would protect a Canada goose with my life because it is so totally innocent of all wrong doing and so helpless when molting. It breaks my heart to think of these families and singles being rounded up to be mass murdered for doing absolutely nothing wrong. Apparently NYC has a plan to kill 165,000 MORE geese to protect their airspace. I think it is just incredible that with all man has achieved with technology they have not found a way to prevent bird strikes against planes. There is OBVIOUSLY a lack of will here as it is so much easier to destroy thousands of innocent birds who once owned this airspace.
Most people don’t realize that their tax dollars are used every single day to torture/kill one species or another, every day of the year, all in the name of either predator or nuisance control. It’s a huge business, implemented by the Federal Government, where we don’t have a say – it happens out of sight, without notification, and swept under the rug.
Whose fault is it that there are so many resident Canada geese? It was illegal to hunt migratory geese, so hunters clipped their wings to keep them in the area. Soon, others joined, they mated, and the rest is history. Man’s selfishness and interefernce with Mother Nature causes imbalances – and now the poor geese are being exterminated in carbon dioxide chambers by the hundreds of thousands, and we foot the bill – yet, we have no say! Whole families, with very young goslings are rounded up, sometimes families are separated with the remaining ones crying, the geese are treated like inanimate objects by those in charge – a travesty that needs to be exposed and seen by everyone!
This is deplorable. What horrific acts the USFW are committing. You are suppossed to be protecting these beautiful birds, this is outrageous.
No matter what it is, whether it be geese, bear, coyotes, fox, wolves, sharks
or anything else god created we seek to destroy. If it doesn’t agreee with you or it becomes a nusiance or inconvenience we kill it, it’s dispicable to say the least.Do you even care what this will do the the eco-system of ours. You have been looking for an excuse for years to kill these poor birds, so now you use the airways, what crap is this. The birds in Brooklyn never left the area
you killed them in, never went near a airport. You dirty cowards, do it at night too while people are sleeping, what a bunch of gutless wonders you all are.
The USDA, USFW, DNR and local law enforcement all want these animals killed. I have heard evey excuse of why they need to be “culled” and every argument for their position is a lie.
These agencies continually lie about flock numbers and over population. My area had a stable flock of about 500 birds year in year out. Last year the local city board caved in from the pressure of soccer moms and golf nuts that hated to see any feces anywhere! These birds were netted during molting season and killed. Now I don’t see any birds in my area!
Is this “culling” or extinction? The USFW is supposed to protect these beautiful birds from extinction and enforce the Migratory Bird Act. They couldn’t care less!

Prior requisite published Public Notice, comment and review are severely lacking for the arbitrary procedures and capricious actions by these public agencies and their assigned employees.
If there was an EIS published it should be readily available to the public for reveiw and comment prior to any lethal action being taken for any species.
Please stop this cruelty on defenseless creatures.
Stop this cruelty!
This kind of thing (which seemingly happens all the time) really enrages me. Leave the geese alone. Let nature be nature. We need to stop interfering and taking these matters into our own hands. Who knows what kind of damage we are actually doing to the already decimated, delicate eco-system.
Stop slaughtering defenseless creatures!
Your job title is a gift, granted to you to protect wildlife, not eradicate them. Its decisions like this that make me ashamed to be a human being.
I strongly recommend you think about what your job title means, and when you lay down to sleep at night, think about the decisons you make and whom it effects.
It ill becomes us to invoke in our daily prayers the blessings of God, the Compassionate, if we in turn will not practice elementary compassion towards our fellow creatures.
—Mahatma Gandhi (1869–1948)
STOP HARMING NATURE. WAKE UP. OR GET UN-ELECTED.
Why do you government officials not LISTEN TO THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. These geese deserve to live. Who are you that you can DECIDE TO ERADICATE THEM.
