Caged and deprived of everything that comes naturally to them, kicked, stomped on, bludgeoned, thrown to the ground, gassed, anally electrocuted, SKINNED ALIVE! Does this sound like an entertaining music video to you? This is Duran Duran’s latest video, “Girl Panic,” featuring five supermodels clad in fur, snakeskin, goat hair, feathers and leather.
I’ve always enjoyed Duran Duran’s music, so I was very disappointed to hear about their new video. C’mon guys this isn’t 1982, it’s 2012, surely you’ve heard about the extreme cruelties of fur production? The animals live in terrible conditions and are then killed in horrific ways. A typical fur coat requires the slaughter of 35 – 125 animals. Tragically, more than 50 million animals are killed for fur each year. Over 2 million of them are dogs and cats.

A person that worked on the video and helped source the clothing confirmed that all of the fur garments appearing in the video are made from actual animal fur. Information on the furs is also available in the printed UK version of Harper’s BAZAAR December 2011 issue. We have reached out to Duran Duran, politely asking the band to stop promoting the use of animal fur and inviting them to participate in an IDA anti-fur public service announcement. If they respond, we will post an update immediately.

Im very upset to hear this. i grew up listening to DD bc my mom was a huge fan! Thid should be outlawed in the world. Animals are helpless and defenseless! Just like a human baby, abd ur not doing this stuff to babies im sure. So stop doing it to animals please! For the sake of all animals and “fashion”

I’ve liked Duran Duran since the 80′s, until I saw their video with people wearing fur. Fur is worn by beautiful animals and Ugly people! Faux fur is so realistic and cruelty free! Use it, or lose your fans.
I, as for many, are against such brutal torture killings. There is no ” good ” way to kill these animals. They should not be killed! Especially, just so ugly women can wear the beautiful fur! The fur is only beautiful on the Original Owner! As for being polite….Oh , I am sorry, I am way pass that! These people you are dealing with ” Rock Groups [ not all, just vain, and emotionless ones] ….and plastic, self absorbed emotionless Models…please! These people know wrong from right…they Absolutely DO NOT care! Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss are such GOOD friends with Stella McCartney [ and that says plenty about her common sense...makes me question her own integrity to the cause! ], now, if she could not persuade them….what makes anyone believe are words will?!

There is NOTHING sexy, hot, enticing, or in the least attractive about wearing DEATH. Drop the dead skins and really live, Duran Duran and ‘supermodels’. Animals live in that skin, and die horribly when you steal it.
Duran Duran should come into THIS century and have some compassion and support the rights of animals and take a stand against animal cruelty!!! I won’t be supporting there come back unless they come out and take an official stand and stop their current practice of using animals as a way to promote their music!
There is nothing sexy or appealing about fur or leather. It’s flat out appalling and disguising. They should be ashamed of themselves for showing such lack of compassion and intelligence.

As a huge Duran Duran fan, I am dismayed to see this story. I will contact the band and I hope they will come to understand that there are plenty of other options for glamor that don’t involve needlessly killing animals.

It is really not at all surprising that people who live in a bubble of celebrity are monstrously ignorant of the reality of life and death for the 100 million wild animals that die for fur every year (thats over 200 a minute). It is quite clear that all they care about is what they believe they look like. And we can all see so clearly that what they truly look like are very very ignorant rich people. One day they will have to open their eyes and see the truth of human being’s pursuit of vanity- lets hope it’s soon.
They were terrible in the 80′s (I was in college at the t8ime), and this makes them even worse in my book..
I guess they never replied. Perhaps we should try one of the other gazillian MTV artists who wear leather and fur? A response from them might help.

I love Duran Duran. It’s a shame that they feel the need to have fur in their video. DD has always prided themselves being on the cutting edge of fashion. Here they fell short. Make compassion the fashion, Guys. I’m disappointed with the Girl Panic attempt.
Duran Duran and all the models involved in making this video must realize they are rapidly becoming a thing of the past hence~ must su up their ingenuity to maintain status quo as celebrity. What they must realize is that animal abuse is not now and will never be condoned no matter who perpetrates this crime. This video leads to the decline in popularity of all involved. I wouldn’t buy this video or watch it because of the cruelty involved in making it. Its sad when has~beens stoop this low to attempt regaining whatever popularity they may have had.
Well now they’ve really done it! They finally showed the world what they’re truly about: selfishness and cruelty. NO ONE in this video deserves to be a celebrity.
The use of fur and support of the industry shows a lack of respect for life. There are too many socially responsible bands to spend time and money on.

I did, too, Nessa – and after about 25 years; that’s how upsetting it is to me. I really feel as if the band should have understood that fur is not considered glam anymore, and actually makes people very sad to see. It’s as if they went back in time instead of evolving with the rest of the human race!
