Save A Prayer For FIFTY MILLION animals killed for fur each year!

“fear is in your soul – say a prayer for me now”

Caged and deprived of everything that comes naturally to them, kicked, stomped on, bludgeoned, thrown to the ground, gassed, anally electrocuted, SKINNED ALIVE!  Does this sound like an entertaining music video to you?  This is Duran Duran’s latest video, “Girl Panic,” featuring five supermodels clad in fur, snakeskin, goat hair, feathers and leather.

I’ve always enjoyed Duran Duran’s music, so I was very disappointed to hear about their new video.  C’mon guys this isn’t 1982, it’s 2012, surely you’ve heard about the extreme cruelties of fur production?  The animals live in terrible conditions and are then killed in horrific ways.  A typical fur coat requires the slaughter of 35 – 125 animals.  Tragically, more than 50 million animals are killed for fur each year.  Over 2 million of them are dogs and cats.

Please scroll to the bottom and add your name and comment if you’re against Duran Duran’s promotion of fur.

We also request you contact Duran Duran to ask them to promote compassion towards animals, rather than extreme cruelty in the name of vanity.  We recommend you approach them in a respectful manner, so your message will be heard.

PLEASE NOTE:

A person that worked on the video and helped source the clothing confirmed that all of the fur garments appearing in the video are made from actual animal fur.  Information on the furs is also available in the printed UK version of Harper’s BAZAAR December 2011 issue.  We have reached out to Duran Duran, politely asking the band to stop promoting the use of animal fur and inviting them to participate in an IDA anti-fur public service announcement.  If they respond, we will post an update immediately.

Additionally, please politely ask the models to stop wearing fur:

Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Yasmin Le Bon: info@models1.co.uk

I have been a HUGE fan of Duran Duran growing up to your music….but sad to say I will no longer be a fan of a group who chooses to promote fur knowing how fur is produced. Please stop the promotion of fur products as well as working with other celebrities who wear fur. It is a sad and painful process and beauty is NOT worth losing thousands (and soon to be millions) of fans.

  • Laura:

Famous people should set good examples!! Not promote evil ones!!!
So many animals suffer for fashion!! It’s wrong and we humans have the power to stop it if we just STOP buying it!!!!

  • I used to be such a fan of Duran Duran, but i am soooooo disappointed that they are using fur in their latest music video, they should know better!!! i won’t support their music now, until they stop, or unless they make a formal apology.

  • body:

This is awful. Shame on DD!

  • Sarah McConnaughey:

Animals DON’T deserve to be killed for any reason. Therefore I refuse to be a fan or support you in any way until you cease wearing fur in your music videos.

  • Marisa Hunt:

Maybe all the people in this video need to be shown how their items of clothing were made and witness the suffering involved. Then I wonder how many of them would still have the stomach to wear the skin of that animal in a pointless music video.

  • Loredana:

    PLEASE STOPP THAT”"

  • David Baker:

How can you be so heartless and inhumane, continuing to purchase and wear fur after knowing how the fur became a garment? Like the inhuman monsters who take it from innocent animals, people who do so are themselves de-humanised.

  • Brian w:

so Duran Duran are trying to live up to the evil image from Barbarella ? If Jane Fonda can have a fake fur space ship. You don’t need to skin animals to survive. And Niomi “rather fur than naked” Cambell… Why do you give up your fame & reputation for money!

  • Michelle:

I have been a fan of DD for 30 years.I am utterly DISGUSTED BY THIS especially as i campaign against FUR WEARING.I did go to the AYNIN concert recently, however i sat down throughout the Girl panic.I already had the tickets and wanted to see them one last time.I will NEVER buy any of their CD’S,DVD’S,or go to any of their concerts again, until they stop promoting ANIMAL TORTURE.SHAME ON DURAN DURAN-A VERY,VERY DISAPPOINTED LONG STANDING FAN.

  • I was a ‘closet Durannie’ during my schooldays back in the 80s but remained a lifelong fan. It looks to me at least as though their trademark exuberance is sadly out of sync with what I hope they still stand for and that’s GENUINE FUN – regardless of cruel trends in fashion.

Besides, I would have thought that Nick Rhodes would know better, as a longtime veggie who has disowned fish-oil supplements on the Jonathan Ross Show and once described cream on desert as ‘beyond the pale’ in a restaurant interview. Maybe those incidents stemmed from his dandified ‘eccentricity’ but there’s always something for humanity to aspire to, or put another way, to ‘Reach up for the Sunrise’ and turn our backs on the ‘Skintrade’.

Great gig in Cardiff this year btw fellas and even better for the fact that I didn’t realize the Girl Panic video actually deprived animals of their fur.

  • Claire Walsh:

I am so saddened to hear that Duran Duran have included five supermodels dressed in fur and animal skins in their new video, “Girl Panic”. Fur could only be considered stylish to a person devoid of conscience. Animals suffer deplorable cruelty both during their miserable existences and deaths, so that people can literally rip the fur from their backs to clad morally vacuous humans. Anyone wearing fur should remember the animals skinned, often alive, so that they can “indulge” their desire to wear another animal’s skin and fur. If they are unable to do this, to remember the poor animals, I seriously wonder what kind of a person they are, and how they can so blatantly show a lack of compassion and empathy for another living being.

There is so much you can do and have done. This one is not positive, therefore, I am no longer your fan and will encourage others to drop you too.

Do something good in life. That is why you were put here with your gift. Very disapppointed in your methods to get attention.

  • If God had wanted us to wear fur we would have been born with it, like a fox or mink. Leave the fur where it belongs, on living breathing creatures.

  • Ingrid:

I always loved Duran Duran and their sense of fashion, but I do not think that it is necessarily to kill animals to wear fur. I do think that people can also wear fake fur, if they need to wear it.

  • Serena:

In this day and age cannotunderstand why people can still wear fur. Show these people videos and hope it makes them sick to watch animals killed!!! Shame on you Duran duran. And Naomi, what are you thinking????? Just money!!!!!

  • Jessica Taylor:

Oy, heartbreaking that you boys I worshipped as a teen still do not understand the power you hold as celebrities. Please reconsider promoting fur and instead use your powers for good and promote compassion and equality for all that share our world. It is all of our responsibility and can start with you.

  • Christian Burgess:

Love the music, despise this … Not OK or cool Duran Duran Only scum wear fur!!

  • Nancy Moonsamy:

This is so sad. Please show compassion for all living things. Animals do not deserve this. There are other options.
Thanks for your consideration to do the right thing. Kindness is always right!

  • Denise Vernier:

Really Duran Duran…I expected SO much more from you. How could you allow the models in Girl Panic to wear REAL fur??? Are you kidding me??? This is very disturbing. I had naively assumed that they were wearing fake furs, what with the abundance of realistic-looking fakes that are available these days. The excess of the 1980′s is long gone…WHY would you approve the use of REAL fur???? Pain and suffering of animals being skinned alive is never pretty. End this madness now…and John, I would strongly advise that Juicy Couture stay away from fur as well.
    Sincerely,
    Denise
A very devoted fan of over 25 years who has met you guys in person dozens of times.

  • Claire Baxter:

See the way they are farmed, see the way they are killed, before you wear them.
…see people wear them, and be absolutely turned-off.

  • Andréa:

Animals are beings of love and we have a lot to learn with them!
They have to be respected and loved. It’s a cruelty and a barbaric practice to use animals to wear fur!

  • Linda:

PLEASE, PLEASE STOP WEARING FUR AND KILLING THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS….IF YOU WOULD WATCH HOW THEY ARE KILLED….YOU WOULD NEVER WEAR FUR AGAIN….

  • Gem Davis:

Please stop this animal cruelty, fake man made fur looks just as good.

  • Carissa Harris:

    Why, why, why?!?!

This is absolutely inexcusable! I am so far beyond disgusted, that I can’t even find the proper words to express my rage.

Shame on everyone involved with this music video!

  • Duran, Duran, please have mercy on the animals.

  • Catherine Lawson:

Very sad that there has been an abundance of tortured and killed animals used to adorn the ‘super-models’ in this video. Is this the message that your band wants to send out to people today? Fur is outdated because many thousands of human beings can respect an animals right to fair and loving treatment. This is the way forward. Fur is not glamourous, visit a fur farm or watch a you tube video and you will see how evil the people are that carry out mass murder in the name of fashion. Time for the band to adopt a more modern approach and start to care about animals . Animals deserve love and kindness and should not be killed just to gratify sick human beings. Think on it Duran Duran

  • Why???? Why???? Please re-do your video, That animal on that womans back felt pain…just like a family dog or cat. Please. Don’t show children that it is ok. you have a responsibility to the public, the children. To be an example of peace & love . Not cruelty.

    W :(

  • Margaret Lovick:

THe torture and horriffic things done to our precious animals for the greed of fur canot be excused and I believe in the end, our Maker will address each and every one of us spirit to spirit, soul to soul. THere is no need for animal fur as we have enough fabrics and fake furs to wear – I will never support the fur trade business or anyone who is associated with it. Not one dime of mine will go to your stardom or whatever you think you are. Heaven help those animals – they sense fear and what is going to happen to them – they hear the cries of their fellow friends who are being beaten and they see the blood and smell it – HOW AWFUL!!!!! IT MUST STOP!!!! SHOW COMPASSION AND STOP THIS FUR TRADE _ PLEASE!!!! GOD will smile if we treat his creatures with respect but if not, He will wreak havoc on mankind till we die. SOrry – but I hate the fur trade! I love animals.

  • Animals are living beings, not accesories. Let’s treat them as such.

  • Janet S.:

It is by request that I make this comment respectfully, but I do NOT feel respect for anyone that has the power of music on their side, to send a message to all, and chooses to use the cruelty and torture of others to promote themselves. As world-reknowned musicians, and formerly a band I was a huge fan of, back in the 80′s, I ‘respectfully” ask you to reconsider the impact you will have, and choose on the side of dignity and respect for other creatures, the way you ask for our respect, and tribute. DON”T make this video!

  • Ashley:

Duran Duran- please stop the use of fur in your videos. It is such a cruel and sad practice! On behalf of voiceless , suffering animals used in the fur industry, I urge you to join us in protecting them. Think about what you can do with your celebrity status for their welfare!

  • Robin Gallant:

Duran Duran used to have a reputation as a socially, culturally responsible band. I loved them when I was growing up…it makes me so sad to see them supporting the fur trade.

  • Amy:

Duran Duran makes me want to vomit.

  • Barbara Narong:

How heartless and inhumane can anyone be to continue purchasing and wearing fur after knowing how the fur became a garment? People who do so are no better than the evil monsters who take it from innocent animals. Stop the insanity!

  • Diane:

I always loved Duran Duran but am respectfully withdrawing myself as a fan until they change their outlook…was never a big fan of spoiled models…so I will stay a non fan of ANY model/celebrity that wears real fur. Did any of them ever think how they would feel if they were snatched from their natural environment/thrown in a cage and starved and beaten and skinned alive??!! Horrible

  • Lisbet Brook:

PLEASE, you are worldly, you know the effect of your Choices, and there simply is no excuse beginning with Naomi. I can not be a fan and I will never support your endeavors until you realize the adverse effects of your promotion to the inhumane fur trade.
