IDA calls for Oregon to call off wolf kill

In the first wolf hunt ever authorized by Oregon officials, federal hunters with permission to kill were tracking a pair of wolves Wednesday, and the hunt resumes tomorrow, Friday.

Below is our statement, made jointly with Big Wildlife, a conservation organization, calling for the hunt to be canceled.
Conservation organization Big Wildlife and animal rights group In Defense of Animals are adamantly opposed the ODFW decision to kill a pair of wolves in Baker County, Oregon, and implore ODFW to immediately call off federal hunters.Judging from the ODFW failed history of dealing with prevention of conflict between wildlife and farm and ranch animals, we do not feel the agency is doing everything possible to prevent this predation.
There are ample non-lethal strategies to prevent animal loss and prioritizing farm and ranch animals over endangered species is the same dysfunctional paradigm of thinking that led to the decimation of wolves in North America in the first place.
We also question the expense the state has and will continue to go through to track and kill these imperiled species, and implore those resources to be used for preventative and non-lethal solutions.Killing is not the answer.
