I wrote to the company that handled the deer removals. They explained to me that the deer were prepared under USDA guidelines and given to charity for human consumption.

AS a ’81 graduate of Vassar College and a member of IDA, I was shocked to come across this….Of course, this information was never disseminated in our alum magazine, which touts all the wonderful things happening on campus. I plan to take the current VC prez to task and also plan on writing a letter to our alum magazine, so that others can learn of the cruelties inflicted on the deer.

If this kind of Bull keeps up, there will be no animals except the ones people raise for us to buy in the store. I grew up hunting and fishing but this kind of slaughter is uncalled for. What did they do with the Deer? Give them to the homeless or throw them in a hole somewhere.

I am horrified by the deer slaughter on your property. Fertility control for deer has been used successfully for the past twenty years, and the use of hired sharpshooters is unjustified and inhumane. As an academic institution, you are in a perfect position to utilize their resources to apply for a permit from the NY DEC to implement a program of fertility control for deer.

Should we write to the president??? My undergrad school, The University of Portland, made a recent laudable decision to ban water sold in plastic bottles. Vassar should know that’s move to slaughter deer puts it in an anti-progressive spotlight!
